ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Energy efficiency: resource at the hand of consumers

Energy efficiency and energy savings are the first steps towards sustainable energy management. Our main objective is to gain overall recognition for this fundamental principle and to help those who are willing to take the needed measures in this direction.
After all, the most environmentally friendly energy is the energy that is not even produced!

Our aims

Public advice on energy consumption
One of our main aims is to make necessary information widely available for energy consciousness in everyday life. Establishing at least one advisory agency in each county to provide the required information for interested residents will serve this aim.

Shaping public awareness
Efficient energy management – whether at home, at work, in a city or in business – depends on individual decisions. Therefore, we consider it of utmost importance that people – of little or large influence – grow to be conscious energy consumers. To support this we prepare publications and educational materials and are present at all significant events so that people can personally meet us.

Energy management of local governments
We give high priority to have local governments realize the importance of their decisions concerning energy: long-term planning, local energy management and showing examples to the local people by implementing these in practice.

To encourage cooperation between energy consciences local governments we helped to establish and are advising a special network: Association of Energy Efficient Municipalities. Furthermore, we promote partnership between local governments and environmental NGOs so that balancing the expertise of the NGOs and the local interests will result in long-term sustainable development.

Lobbying for energy efficiency
It is our aim that energy efficiency gains the needed attention at the national-level regulations and decision-making, by commenting policy papers and official documents. However, regulations are meaningless if not implemented. We consider it is important to have them put in place and to attain their public acceptance. Our means are plain and wide-ranging education. Building on our experience we also transfer this knowledge through cross border or regional partnership and cooperation programs.
