Joint Project (Nuclear risks & public control)

In the Joint Project, European NGOs and research institutions cooperate on safe and sustainable energy issues with a focus on anti-nuclear activities in Central and Eastern Europe. The long-term goals of the Joint Project are a nuclear phase-out in Europe, no new-build nuclear power plants, no renaissance of nuclear energy, no lifetime extension of old reactors, safe management of spent fuel and radioactive waste and adequate public participation.

The Joint Project launches new activities every year since 2003. The Joint Project themes for 2017/18 are the management of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel (especially the national implementation of the 2011/70/Euratom Directive), participation in Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) for new nuclear plants and lifetime extensions for old reactor blocs, state aid for new nuclear, and radiation protection. The Hungarian national project, led by Energiaklub, covers utilising of legal possibilities to stop the Paks II investment, plus publishing studies on issues of radioactive waste and nuclear terrorism.

The Joint Project is funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Sustainability and Tourism.
